Why Travel With KIO

Kangaroo Island Odysseys provides quality 4-wheel drive wildlife and nature discovery tours for small, personalised groups. A range of tour packages from one to five days, are available. This allows for greater flexibility to plan itineraries and accommodation options that suit individual interests. Alternatively, tour itineraries can be customised under private charter arrangements.

Tours operate all year round (except 25 DEC), and are designed to enhance your Kangaroo Island experience. Travel in modern 4WD vehicles accompanied by a professional local guide to interpret and share all the island's treasures - its history, flora, fauna, and ecological and geographical features.

Tours are available daily in English. Italian, French and German tours have set departure days. These tours are not multilingual, and will operate in the language specifically nominated. Spanish and Japanese language tours can also be arranged as required.

Kangaroo Island is a destination for all seasons and supports a uniquely South Australian ecosystem. Tour inclusions

All our tours include qualified driver/guide, all entry fees to National Parks or relevant attractions, morning/afternoon coffee, water and soft drinks, gourmet lunch including wine in a natural setting. Standard tours are in English.

Vehicles

Our fleet includes late models Toyota Landcruiser 4WD (max. 4 pax) and custom built Isuzu 4WD vehicles. All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts on each seat, air-conditioning, First Aid kit and emergency communication devices.

Group sizes

We will start a tour with a minimum of two (2) guests per tour departure. The maximum group size per tour is 12 guests.

Guides / drivers

While touring in small groups {up to six (6) guests}, there will be one driver/guide. For groups of 7 to 12 guests we will have two driver / guides on board the vehicle.

Meals

During the day KI Odysseys will provide morning / afternoon coffee as well as a gourmet lunch (silver service presentation including wine, water and soft drinks) in a natural setting as part of the tour. Please inform us about any special dietary requirements with your booking request.

Drinks

Water and soft drinks are supplied during the day free of charge.

Smoking

Following South Australian legislation, smoking is not permitted in vehicles however frequent stops are made for those wishing to smoke. We do supply portable ashtrays on request.

Luggage restrictions

Flights between Adelaide and KI are operated by smaller aircraft (34 seater), and larger suitcases cannot always be carried. Please 'pack down' to an overnight bag. REX has a 15 kg luggage limit per person.

Optional tours

Kangaroo Island has some large colonies of little penguins. Most properties offer nocturnal penguin tours or can arrange these for your guests. Bookings and payment has to be arranged directly by the guests with the operator of the tour. Costs vary from $50 to $70 per person depending on the tour and operator (these are only indicative prices).

Private Charters

We are pleased to offer special interest touring or private charter tours. These tours will be accompanied with your own personal guide and vehicle. We can arrange for special meals and exclusive venues. From one guest to 50 guests or more, special itineraries or requirements, we can arrange it for you. Groups

We cater for your group touring as well as your group series. Make the Adelaide-stopover a special event for your guests and include Kangaroo Island in their itinerary. Please contact us for a quote or further information.

What to bring

Please travel lightly. Guests are asked to bring just an overnight bag on tour. Casual clothing according to the season is sufficient. Shorts and light shirts for summer, warmer clothing for winter. Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes, wide brimmed hat or cap, sun protection and insect repellent as well as appropriate wind and rain protection gear. Umbrellas are unsuitable due to occasional windy conditions.

Fitness and Walks

Passengers should be of reasonable health and fitness. Walks are not very demanding but are conducted over uneven surfaces. Please make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

Children on Tour

We are pleased to accept bookings from families with children, although we recommend no to take children under the age of 7 in an escorted 4WD-tour. Please make sure to communicate the age at time of booking. We will provide appropriate child or booster seat if needed. For child rates, please contact us. If touring with children under the age of 3 years, private charter is required.
